Verlaßne Nester hängen am Bache in den Weiden,
die Zittergräser beben im Winde auf der Haiden.
Oh Lieber, warum wandte
sich von mir deine Glut?
O Herz, mein Herz, wie wehe
dein Bangen thut!

Am Grabeshügel rauschen ein schaurig Lied die Rüstern,
am Ufersaum beklommen im Schilf die Lüfte flüstern.
Oh Lieber, ach! wer raunte
von mir dir Schlimmes zu?!
O Herz, mein Herz, nun findest
du nimmer Ruh'!

Des nids abandonnés pendent dans le saule près du ruisseau,
sur la lande, les épis des brizes frissonnent dans le vent.
Oh chéri, pourquoi ton ardeur
se détourne-t-elle de moi ?
Ô cœur, mon cœur,
comme ton anxiété fait mal !

Sur la tombe les ormes murmurent un triste chant,
dans les roseaux de la rive le vent chuchote son angoisse.
Oh chéri, hélas ! Qui t'a murmuré à l'oreille
du mal de moi ?!
Ô cœur, mon cœur, tu ne trouveras plus
désormais le repos !
