by Ludwig Heinrich Christoph Hölty (1748 - 1776)

Minnelied
Language: German (Deutsch)
Süßer klingt der Vogelsang,
Wann die gute, reine,
Die mein Jünglingsherz bezwang,
Wandelt durch die Haine.

Röther blühet Thal und Au,
Grüner wird der Wasen,
Wo die Finger meiner Frau
Mayenblumen lasen.

Freude fließt aus ihrem Blick
Auf die bunte Weide,
Aber fliehet sie zurück,
Ach, so flieht die Freude.

Alles ist dann für mich todt,
Welk sind alle Kräuter,
Und kein Sommerabendroth
Dünkt mir schön und heiter.

Liebe, minnigliche Frau,
Wollest nimmer fliehen,
Daß mein Herz, gleich dieser Au,
Immer möge blühen.

Confirmed with Ludwig Christoph Heinrich Hölty's Sämtliche Werke kritisch und chronologisch herausgegeben von Wilhelm Michael, Erster Band, Weimar, Gesellschaft der Bibliophilen, 1914, page 119.

Note: This is the initial version of Hölty's poem as passed down from his manuscript.
